Character Sketches for BBD
Jerry Lee - Mid twenties to young thirties. Not your charismatic hero. He's earthy, a bit quiet and shy, polite. Little to no money; grew up that way. Not a lot of opportunity in his life. Hard worker, but that's about all he knows how to do. Cari Sue and Him are a thing, but they’re past the giddy stuff; they just love each other. He thinks he's not good enough for her. His physical attributes are unique, but not completely unattractive. Skinny, or round belly, but not fit. Preferably can grow good facial hair. Hair is wavy, curly, or red (something interesting). Personality in film is down, depressed. There's a hint of what he used to be; optimistic, smiley, uplifting to be around. The world has him down right now though. No temper, just hopelessly down. Exasperated. Dancer! Physically able to do own stunts.
Devil - Handsome, slick, smooth, charismatic. Wide range on spectrum of emotion; charming and polite to angry and mean. Flips like a switch. In his prime (25-35). Dark hair. Great smile and twinkle in his eye. Manipulative. Likable, but has to be hated. He’s ruthless; no mercy. Commanding presence, but in the end breaks. Well built and well dressed. Actor can be a little older if he still fits description (into his 40's).
Cari Sue - Young (twenties) and attractive. Very thin. Quiet and almost shy, but very strong personality when needed. Nurturer. Underlying wisdom that only comes out when it needs to. Developed her qualities on her own. She made herself what she is, not her upbringing. Always thoughtful of others. No temper. Doesn’t ask why, just does what is needed. Knows Jerry’s heart and potential. Doesn’t need a fancy rich life; just wants to be a happy with someone she loves and is loved by. In this case, Jerry Lee.
Hank - Wise grandpa. Jolly, but firm. Takes his time; he’s more worried about quality work than quantity. Doesn’t just talk to talk; he always has a purpose, even if it’s just to cheer someone up. He shines shoes for a living, but it seems to be more of a hobby than a means to survival. He has a well kept beard, and always wears a nice sharp suit.
Patch - Unshaven. Looks older than he is (late twenties...looks 40). Stylish but dirty clothes. Skinny. He’s a weasel. Lays down the charm, but has no guts to back it. Only out for himself. A little bit on the crazy side. Laughing eyes. Was perhaps once attractive, but not so much anymore. Not because of his features, but because of his demeanor. Sings and plays guitar. May play harmonica instead of guitar.
Mr. Choi – Unusual looking Asian, preferably Korean. Tall, thin, or overweight. Has a temper. Jerry Lee’s boss.
Mrs. Hardbottom - Ornery mother of children. Doesn’t put up with any crap. Bigger than her husband. Plump, but she can move around.
Mr. Hardbottom - Little pip-squeak. Can’t stand up to Mrs. Hardbottom. Just does what she says.
Children - Small town hooligans. Will grow up to be good contributors of the community, but right now are bent on raising Hell.
