CASTING CALL FOR A SHORT (25 min.) FILM
“700 VOLTS”
A faculty-directed project for the education of film school students, to be posted online. You can view our previous work on YouTube at “Film School at NNU”.
The Story: “A subway station attendant encounters the world of social media with tragic results when he saves the life of a boy who falls on the tracks.”
Shooting Location: Near Boise, Idaho
Shooting Dates: Weekends of 9/27, 10/18, 11/15, 11/22, 1/24, 2/7 (mostly Saturdays only, but dates and days are somewhat flexible. These are the dates we’ve reserved, and will not necessarily be filming on every single one, but those interested in major roles should be available those dates).
Audition Dates: Saturday 9/13, Monday 9/15, Saturday 9/20 if needed. Will accept video auditions or prior work through agents only.
Audition Location: Nampa, Idaho
STARRING ROLES (paid)
OTIS LINCOLN: A Morgan Freeman type, Otis probably should have retired by now from the job he loves as a subway station attendant. Prefer African-American, but will consider other ethnicities based on talent. Appears in 17 of 18 scenes.
RICKY: 12 year old boy, not a geek, not a jock, but lives in the digital world. He’s not sure what to do when real people talk to him. Appears in the 6 major scenes. Prefer caucasian but will consider others.
SUPPORTING ROLES (unpaid)
NOTE: these are speaking roles unless noted. Most are required on-set only one shooting day.
KEN: Otis’s boss. Middle-age blue-collar worker. Any ethnicity.
MAYOR: Any ethnicity, any gender, old and young enough to look like the mayor of a major city.
CARL: Otis’s co-worker and friend. Younger than Otis, but old enough to share similar life events. Any ethnicity.
WILD BOY: This is a non-speaking role, but this actor must perform the major stunt fall in the film, which is a critical scene. Must appear to be between 10 and 13 years old.
REPORTER: Not a cub, but not a veteran either. Any gender or ethnicity.
MRS. SELKIRK: The mother of three young boys.
AIDE: Twenty-something, any gender or ethnicity.
CONVENIENCE STORE CLERK: Middle-age to retirement age, male, any ethnicity.
BEDRAGGLED WOMAN: Mother of Wild Boy and two others, ethnicity will match Wild Boy.
TRANSIT COP: Old enough to be a cop, but otherwise any age, gender or ethncity.
RICKY’S MOTHER: Appropriate age for an 12-year-old’s mother, ethnicity to match Ricky.
YOUNG MAN: 18 or over, but under 30. Any ethnicity.
YOUNG WOMAN: 18 or over, but under 30. Any ethnicity.
