I would love it if you could pass this audition notice to your talent. This
show is going to be so amazing and we need amazing people in it which is why I
am coming to you.
This show will perform at The Complex in Salt Lake City and we open October
25th and run through November 2nd.
There is no base pay but after all costs are covered Bonuses will be issued
and these are dependent on what character they play and ticket sales, and will
be dispersed after the show has CLOSED.

We got rated The Best Halloween show in utah last year and are looking to
maintain that reputation. Here is a breakdown of the characters we are looking
for and submission details for their audition. This is a musical and it does
have adult content. There will be blood in some scenes and the story is about a
serial killer couple where one cuts throats while the other bakes the victims
into pies. Actors need to be comfortable with this.
Character Breakdown:
Sweeney Todd: late 20s to mid 30s Bass/Baritone: Sweeney
is the protagonist of the musical. He is a man tortured by lost love(his wife
Lucy and daughter Joanna). He was unjustly imprisoned so that Judge Turpin and
Beadle could take advantage of his family. He is driven to madness by his desire
for revenge. He loves himself and lets the memory of his wife and daughter fade
over the course of the play.
Judge Turpin: ages 40 to 50 Bass/Baritone:
Judge
Turpin is selfish, perverted and corrupt. He condemns Benjamin Barker to a
miserable life so that he may take advantage of Benjamin's wife Lucy. Then, the
judge raises Joanna, and attempts to marry her when she comes of age.
Beadle
Bamford ages late 20s mid 30s Tenor:
Beadle
is heavily influenced by the judge. He desires to please him in all things, and
always has the judge's best interest in mind. Even when it becomes necessary to obstruct justice,
he does so to please the judge. He recommends the
Turpin get a shave in order to win over Joanna. Beadle also puts Joanna in the
asylum even though it is wrong in order to please the judge. Beadle
is desensitized to
the evil he commits(which is a common theme for most characters).
Toby
ages 13 to 15, Tenor: When
one first meets Toby, he is a sell out. He turns on his people to better
himself. (Refer to social commentary, Pirelli's Miracle
Elixir/Social Classes) However, it can be said about him that when he sells out,
he is very loyal to the people he joins.
Anthony ages 19 to mid 20s, Tenor: Anthony
is an extremely naive character. He trusts Sweeney without ever questioning his
motives. He falls in love with Joanna and believes he can save her. He grows
angered with the police (Beadle) for imprisoning Joanna, and believes that he
can change her circumstances by appealing to Beadle's logic and reason, and the
good(which does not always exist) in human nature.
Ghosts ages 21 to 40 all voices: The ghosts are people
Sweeney has killed who haunt hiim throughout the show. They narrate the entire
play and are very important to telling this story. We are looking for all
voices, ethnicities, and heights. They sing lots of songs. We need at least 4
women, and 4 men to play the Ghosts.
Audition Requirements:
1.
Slate your name, part auditioning for, what song you are singing and agency you
are with.
2.
Sing 18 bars FROM SWEENEY TODD that the character you want to play
sings.

videos will not be accepted after this date and time. Videos should not exceed 3
minutes. If your video exceeds 3 minutes it may cause you to be disqualified
from auditioning and being in the show. We want to make sure everyone has a fair
shot so please follow the requirements.
Based off your audition you may be cast, and or may
need to come to callbacks. If asked to callbacks you will be notified via email
the date, and time and location, and what you are being called back for. If you
are cast you will also be notified via email and the cast list will be posted on
backstageutah.com and on
Skye's the Limit! Productions website no later than August 3rd. Rehearsals
begin August 5th.
If
you will NOT take a Ghost part you need to be VERY SPECIFIC. If you only want to
be considred for a specific role please say so.
