DAYTIME PERFORMANCE AUDITION INFORMATION

Rehearsals: Typically Monday – Friday mornings 9am – 12pm (longer on some days, particularly the week prior to opening)

Performances are booked by schools, but are typically held Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10:30am. Call time is one hour before showtime. Performances generally end about 12pm with some time to break down the show as it runs in repertory with our regular season of shows.

Performances begin mid February and end about the 2nd week of June, depending on performance schedule bookings.

Compensation for all actors is $25/performance

RACE TO THE MOON February 2013 – June 2013 Race to the Moon is a fictional story about a race to the moon with historical facts about the Apollo mission and feature visualizations of the lunar project and landing.

This original adaptation will inspire young audiences about the ingenuity, dedication and perseverance when something seems impossible. Excerpt from John F. Kennedy Speech at Rice University, Houston, 12 September 1962:

“We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win, and the others, too. It is for these reasons that I regard the decision last year to shift our efforts in space from low to high gear as among the most important decisions that will be made during my incumbency in the office of the Presidency.”

Character Descriptions

Sam: A child actor (male or female) aged 8-12. Sam lives in Houston, TX, with his/her parents, goes to school, and lives a pretty normal life. But Sam’s father works for NASA as an engineer for the Apollo Program as the space agency is planning to send the first men to the moon. Sam has a very active imagination and a strong spirit of adventure. She has vivid dreams about astronauts, spaceflight, and visiting the moon, and she loves talking to her father about the space program. Nothing could be more exciting for her than the opportunity to see the Apollo 11 rocket launch, and to watch the live television feed of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin taking their first steps on the moon.

Dad: A male actor in his late 20s to late 30s. Dad is A NASA engineer who loves his job and is excited to share it with his kid.

Mom/Astronaut: A female actor in her mid-20s to late 30s. Mom is very supportive of her husband’s work and her child’s enthusiasm for it. She enjoys sharing in the adventure of the moon landing. The astronaut appears in Sam’s dreams and takes Sam to visit the moon.

Astronaut/NASA coworker/Other: A male actor. The astronaut also makes his appearances in Sam’s dreams about spaceflight. The NASA coworker is one of Dad’s friends and colleagues who goes to the launch of the Apollo 11 rocket with Sam & Dad.

West Jordan Theater Arts to Hold Auditions for “Forever Plaid”

West Jordan Theater Arts will be holding auditions for the roles of Sparky, Jinx, Smudge and Frankie in the musical production of “Forever Plaid.”

Auditions will be held January 8 & 9 from 7 – 9 pm at West Jordan City Hall, 8000 South Redwood Road. Auditioners will need to be 17 years or older and should come prepared to sing a selection from the period (1930’s to 1950’s). No current musicals, please. An accompanist will be provided. Resumes and headshots are welcome but not required.

“Forever Plaid” is one of the most popular and successful musicals in recent memory. This deliciously goofy revue centers on four young, eager male singers killed in a car crash in the 1950′s on the way to their first big concert, and now miraculously revived for the posthumous chance to fulfill their dreams and perform the show that never was.

This show and music will be directed by Nancy Jensen. Performances are scheduled for March 2013.

The Little Brown Theater is casting "See How They Run," an English comedy in three acts by Philip King. Dana Anquoe, dir.

Project description: "Its title is a line from the nursery rhyme 'Three Blind Mice.' It is considered a farce for its tense comic situations and headlong humor, heavily playing on mistaken identity, doors, and vicars. All but two cast members are returning to the show from a production that was done in 2010."

Singer/Dancer Requirements:

• Audition appointments are not required.
• All candidates must be at least 16 years old by March 30, 2013.
• All candidates must provide one (1) current non-returnable headshot and one (1) performance resume.
• All singer candidates must prepare to sing two contrasting songs (one (1) up-tempo & one (1) ballad) in any style. Each song should not exceed 1-minute in length. Provide legible sheet music in the appropriate key as an accompanist will be provided. Accompaniment on CD or iPod is also allowed however, music with the original artist performing main vocals, or on a cassette tape, will not be accepted.
• All dancer candidates, who do not wish to sing, must prepare a one (1) minute routine which showcases both technical and performance skills.
• All candidates must be able to move well. Some candidates may be asked to attend a call back the same day at which time a dance combination will be taught. Bring appropriate attire, please no costumes.
