Proscenium Players and Gold Dust West Hotel and Casino in Carson City will hold open auditions for their 2013 mystery dinner theater production of "Murder on the Lust Boat" on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 1-2, 7 to 9 p.m. inside the casino's Juniper Room.

Those auditioning will be asked to do cold readings and some improvisational acting. Performances will be held at Gold Dust West Hotel and Casino Jan. 18-19, 25, 26, 27 and Feb. 1-2, 2013. Rehearsal dates will be determined on the availability of those being cast. There are scripted speaking roles for 5 men and 4 women age 18 or older and non-scripted House Cast roles for 5-8 men or women age 16 or older. Non-scripted House Cast will mingle with the audience prior to dinner and assist with audience interactive events during the performances.

The scripted roles are: Tony Terrafirma – Lounge Singer; Hamilton Helmsworth – Fiona’s henpecked husband; Captain Ivah Dinghy – Incompetent ships’ captain; Butler Rutledge – Caprice’s dorky, frustrated husband; and, Rico – Cool, exotic, man of few words. Female roles are: Tina Terrafirma – Tony’s wife and lounge singer partner; Fiona Helmsworth – Owner of ship, a real sea witch; Monique Lewdinsky – Perky activities director with lustful itinerary; Caprice Rutledge – guest on ship who goes jogging frequently.

The action takes place in the Afterglow Lounge on a luxury ocean liner nicknamed “The Lust Boat.” Why the nickname? Because the activities planned by the social director are so naughty, people are running off with other people’s mates. In fact, some couples hit dry land and head straight for the divorce lawyer!
The action revolves around Rico, Man of Mystery, who sits at a table onstage and tries to mind his own business. Trouble is, every staff member on the ship thinks Rico is someone different – from a restaurant critic to a hit man. Rico isn’t talking, but the rest of the cast can’t shut up. They spend their time gossiping about each other and dredging up secrets from each other’s pasts.

In the end, someone is brutally murdered, and it’s up to the audience to guess who done it. Just about every cast member is a suspect. The audience casts its votes, and the first people to correctly guess the murderer and motive win prizes. This is an audience interactive show in which actors will have the opportunity to do both scripted lines and improvisational acting.
