A shrewd businessman and a vibrant orator, his ambition and greed lead him to become the richest
man in California, but also turn him into the villain, capable of ordering his thugs to murder the guilty
and innocent alike, all for power and wealth.

THURBER (mid‐20s to play early 20s)
Young and spirited. Although he can be overzealous and impatient, when his character is tried, he
proves to Robinson to be a worthy companion and friend.(read the Martin Sides!)

WALKER (25‐40)
A hardened veteran of the Mexican War, he looks out only for himself. When pushed to the limit, he
turns to crime, and ultimately, murder.

WEBBER (50s)
A war veteran and the President of Boston Company, he brought everyone together in search of gold.
But some people aren’t destined to be heroes, and after facing one too many hardships, decides to quit
and go home.

MARTIN and FOWLER (25‐40)
A couple of incompetent slackers who join the gold rush with nothing tying them down. They’re
willing to do anything to get rich, and lacking moral compasses, turn to crime without an inkling of
guilt. They’re willing to die for gold, and one of them does.(Read Martin Sides for Both)

Nick Dixon, a student at BYU's school of Media Arts Studies. Each semester, a small handful of students recreate a scene from an existing film as part of the Advanced Directing class. We would like to invite any actors or actresses who would be interested in expanding their reel to come to the casting session this upcoming Wednesday for these pieces. Each of them are just a few minutes in length. We have no budget to work with whatsoever so we can't offer them any sort of payment, but these could potentially lead to future work with the directors in the class, many of whom already have successful commercial endeavors

Rocky: tall, somewhat muscular showboat. Long, silky hair and a stare that would melt even the most hardened female inmate. Loves his American heritage and wears it proudly with his stupidly patriotic garb.
Ginger: tall, slender black girl. Big eyes help her be observant.
Fowler: An army veteran. He never lost the army touch and still rocks a shaved head, dog tags and a sweet scar on his forehead.
Caravaggio: Simple, not particularly attractive but eccentric. 40 year old man with a messy mustache, a love for music and very knowledgeable about the village.
Almásy: 35, has dark features, olive skin and light eyes. Even though he is badly burned his well-built and strong physique is apparent.
Hana: 5’5’’ with medium brown hair that looks golden in the sun. Her eyes are dark, difficult to tell wehther brown or blue. She is fair wit ha bone structure of an average pretty girl, slightly heart shaped. She is of medium build, on the this side. She has a wicked laugh when she is particularly tired or tipsy but for the most part she is even tempered, hiding her heartache.
Kip: 5’ 10’’ with medium brown skin, coming from a more Northern part of India. He is good looking in a strong and lean way, though a small belly is starting to grow.

'Arrested Development' Walk-On Role Contest

Utah Musical Theatre Company has announced auditions for the Utah premiere of the inspirational musical SIDE SHOW.

“The Utah premiere of SIDE SHOW will be an exciting event of this year’s theater season because its message of love and acceptance is a universal theme that Utah audiences can relate to, along with beautiful contemporary music, a great band, colorful costumes, a top-notch set, and powerful choreography,” said Johnny Hebda, Utah Musical Theatre Company producer and director of SIDE SHOW.

Auditions will be held Saturday, Oct. 20 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Echo Theatre, 145 University Ave., Provo, Utah.

SIDE SHOW created much Broadway buzz at its 1997 opening when it earned positive critical recognition and hugely devoted fans. The show earned four high-profile Tony Award nominations during a highly competitive Broadway season.

“SIDE SHOW is based on the true story of conjoined twins Daisy and Violet Hilton, their journey from tawdry side shows to stardom, and their search for love and acceptance in spite of their physical condition,” Hebda explained. “We have assembled a very talented production team and are confident that we will put together an all-star cast. The regional premiere of this Broadway musical is not to be missed!”

SIDE SHOW will be produced and directed by Johnny Hebda, with choreography by William Cooper Howell, production design by Kevin Dudley and assistant directed by Adam Cannon.

Rehearsals will be in Lehi, Utah, during November and December, and then at the Echo Theatre in Provo, Utah, beginning in January. While a community theater production, a small stipend may be available for principals, especially those that are commuting.

There are roles for 23 actors of all ages, ethnicities and appearance, open to ages 14 and older. All roles are open, with the exception of Jake.

Auditioners should prepare 32 measures of a contemporary musical theater selection in the style of the show and bring sheet music. No appointment is necessary.

The performance run is Jan. 18-Feb. 2 on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Monday evenings, with matinees on Jan. 19 and Feb. 2.
