Utah-Film Audition ASAP

Auditions for Art Institute Film School, "Willaby," will be held in Sandy, Utah This Tuesday, June 19th from 6:30PM- 9:30PM

This is a cold read and sides for speaking roles will be available at the audition for each character.  Not all roles are speaking roles and actors will need to be able to demonstrate an ability to convey specific emotions without using words:

Willaby

Not good looking or ugly, just very average. Late 20's early 30's. He has a lean build with brown hair and brown eyes. He is quiet, but not shy. He has an extremely intelligent and amazing imagination. His only friend is his dog. He is an only child and gets very little attention from his parents or anyone really. He is extremely lonely and Willaby just wants to be loved and accepted.

 

Penelope

Naturally beautiful with the girl next door appearance. She is in her late 20's. She is shy and quiet and completely unaware of her beauty. She has red or brown hair and is very petite. She has a natural kindness to her and a quirky love for animals. In the dream sequence she is stunning in breathtaking gowns and flawless makeup.

 

The Boss

Large and middle aged with reddened blotchy skin. The boss has gained 20 or so pounds in the last few years but has not updated his wardrobe so all his clothes are slightly too tight and it appears as if he has been poored into them. He is always wheezing and sweaty and has the appearance of a fattened pig. He balding hair is greasy and slicked back.

 

Circus Announcer/mail room boy

Wirey and small with quick darting eyes. He is the type that plays online computer games and collects action figures. He is strange and bizarre and slightly makes all around him uncomfortable. He has a nervous laugh.

 

Action Figure/Cool male co-worker

A good looking man in late 20's, early thirties. Very trim and strong in great physical shape. He is your typical high school jock in every way possible. Blonde hair blue eyes, perfect teeth. He is very smooth and suave.

 

Willaby's Mom

A middle aged woman that at one time could have been very beautiful. She has tried to keep up with the fashion of the times and keep herself in the best shape possible. She is petite with dark brown hair. She has extreme energy and is always excited. She is absent minded and slightly dense.

 

Willaby's Dad

Complete Fuddy Duddy. Middle aged, and the years haven't been kind. He is slightly chubby, but not overweight. He has thinning red hair that is turning white. He has gotten off the fashion train years ago. He wears Hawaiian shirts and khaki shorts with legs that haven't seen the light of day in years. 


Payment will be deferred for the trailer. We are currently planning to use any actors cast for the trailer for the full, paid shoot next summer.  We will have contracts for the actors to sign when they are cast.

This is a spec trailer, so compensation will be in the form of food during the shoot. This video is being shot by an up and coming local production company so this is a great time to get recognized by them. This video also has the potential of being viewed by millions.

Lead Characters:

Thomas (18-22)--Lead. Thomas is the audience's eyes of the story. He has an odd connection to the maze itself that he doesn't understand, but ultimately believes he's the one who has to solve it.

Alby (18-22)--African-American (book describes as dark-skinned). Newest leader of the boys in the maze. Short spoken and short tempered, sometimes comes across as rude and indifferent.

Newt (17-19)--Tall, thin, slightly muscular. Blonde hair (wears it long). Newt is Alby's right-hand man. A playful personality and sarcastic sense of humor.

Ben (17-20)--Pale, thin. Banished for attacking Thomas. Ben has recently been recovering from a mental/physical illness (a side effect from getting stung by creatures within the maze). Ben will be a very intense/draining role to fill in that he is screaming/crying as he's banished from the Glade (a death sentence)
EXT. THE GLADE - EVENING
Boys stand forming disjoined edges of an aisle. BEN stands in
the center. Their leader, ALBY, stands at the head.
ALBY
Ben, you’ve been sentenced to
Banishment for the attempted murder
of Thomas. The Keepers have spoken,
and their word ain’t changing.
A large pole is brought out. Ben is harnessed to a collar
attached to one end of the pole. Several boys take hold of
the pole. The door begins to move with a loud grinding.
Quick cuts of Ben pushed out and struggling. The walls shut
him out. Ben Screams.
FADE TO:
Thomas is among a large group of boys. He looks at all the
odd faces looking back at him. Boys raising animals. Boys
planting/harvesting crops--a giant wall behind them.
THOMAS (V.O.)
Where am I? [I don’t remember
anything].
ALBY (V.O.)
Once a month we get a newbie like
you, never fails. Once a week, we
get supplies, clothes, some food.
Ain’t needin’ a lot--pretty much
run ourselves in the Glade.
Thomas’ eyes look up. The wall goes upward forever [low angle
shot, thomas in frame, showing enormity of walls--birds
flying above in distance.] Thomas standing at the opening of
the maze, looking out.
NEWT
Out there’s the maze. Everything we
do [...] revolves around the maze.
[...] it’s not to be messed with.
[...] the walls close shut every
night. [and] you should never, find
your butt out there [when they do].
EXT. WALL PERIMETER - NIGHT
Thomas hangs from a wall of vines, drenched in sweat and
breathing heavily. He silently waits, looking down below.
Biotic lights burst on and a creature lunges forward.
