 Two auditions are being held today to find kids for parts in upcoming Christmas shows.

The Off-Broadway Theatre is holding open auditions for a parody of “The Grouch Who Stole Christmas.” that stars the Sesame Street homeless character who lives in a garbage can. The production needs kids 6 to 16 and adults to fill out the cast. Children’s auditions are at 10 a.m. and adults at noon. Be prepared to belt out a tune. Call 801-355-4628 for more information. Desert Star Playhouse is also looking for children 7-12 to try out for a five-week acting class that will prepare them for the theater’s “It’s a Wonderful Life” Christmas show. HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS MOVIE BREAKDOWN.

Home for the holidays is a short horror film (around 7 minutes) which depicts a former boyfriend (Mike) who returns home to the woman he once loved (Mary). While awaiting her arrival, Mike makes himself and becomes reacquainted with the family dog. Unfortunately, his presence is met with disdain on the part of his former lover.

ALL ROLES ARE PAID. THOSE CAST AS MOLLY AND JAKE WILL BE ASKED TO ATTEND A PHOTOSHOOT PRIOR TO THE FILM'S SHOOT DATES.

This film involves very dark themes and features scenes of intense violence. We ask that only those who are uncomfortable with strong language and scenes involving physical struggle dont attend the auditions.

Mike: $200-$150 2 1/2 day. 25-35 years old white male. Dark hair. Medium build. Mike is not the typical "angry ex-boyfriend"

Molly: $100-$80 1 day. 25-30 years old. Attractive. Molly knows that Mike has his qwerks she has dealt with them before and is fully confident that she can handle the situation. This confidence fades only at the point in which she realizes Mikes true intent.

Jake: $40-50 1/2 day. 25-35 year old white male. Medium build. Jake is Molly's current boyfriend.

Thor: Payment is negotiable. Medium to large sized dog. Must be able to snarl and bark on command.

If you’re interested in auditioning for this Southern Fried Comedy, the Catfish Moon auditions at Spokane Civic Theatre are coming up next week. Time to get your southern on.

Catfish Moon is a story of three best friends from high school. An old pier at the end of Cypress Lake is the favorite hangout of three best friends: Curley, Gordon and Frog. An overnight fishing trip brings back a painful reality, but the biggest fish of all time does not get away. Mid-life pressures and the weight of adulthood are lifted by what matters most: friendship.

There are four characters in Catfish Moon. Three men and one woman. And all of the characters are connected.  The three men (Curley, Gordon, and Frog) are all old friends from high school. The woman Betty has a bit of a triangle with the three fellows. She is Curley’s sister, Frog’s Ex-Wife, and Gordon’s girlfriend.

• Curley is a guy in his 40s (35-45). He is the leader of the pack and generally a really nice guy. The actor playing Curley should be able to portray the nice level-headed guy. He’ll have a bit of wisdom and a comforting smile. He has to be able to interact with the other characters through playful banter, serious advice, and being a peace keeper.
• Gordon is also a guy in his 40s (35-45). He is a sweet guy that is easily confused or flustered. The actor playing Gordon should be a big teddy bear sort of guy. A clumsy sweetness and ability to laugh are a must. Gordon has the most stage time, but part of that involves sleeping onstage.
• Frog is the third friend, and you guessed it; he is also in his 40s (35-45). He is a good guy at heart but has a bit of a temper. This character may be one of the hardest to portray. He needs to come across as tough and grumpy, but the audience still needs to care about him. Frog makes a transformation throughout the show from angry friend to a caring person. This actor will need to be able to provide a hard exterior while being soft and caring.
• Betty is the girl. She is in her 30s and is sweet, understanding, and nice. The actress will need to be a level headed girl but also have a sense of beauty and sweetness to her (after all, 2 guys do fight over her). Coy banter and insightful conversation are all part of Betty.

During the casting, the director, Chris Wooley, will be looking for actors who can show the multiple sides of the characters. Everyone has at least one heartfelt moment and lots of casual chit-chat, mixed in with a few heated moments. The ideal actors should be able to differentiate between the two types of text.

Auditions will be on Monday December 5, 2011 and Tuesday December 6, 2011 at the Spokane Civic Theatre’s Firth J Chew Studio theatre located at 1020 N Howard, Spokane, WA. Audition times begin at 6:30 pm. There will be cold readings from the script.

Actors are encouraged to read the show. Scripts are available at the Spokane Civic Theatre between 10 and 5:30 to read at the theatre.

The show opens on January 27 and runs through Feb 19.

Sandy Arts Guild will hold auditions for "Arsenic and Old Lace," Dec. 8, 7-8:30 p.m., at the Sandy Parks and Recreation Building, 440 E. 8680 South. I am shooting a very low-budget suspense film in Grand Junction. I am looking for a few actors who would be willing to work for no pay.
