(Orem, Utah) – SCERA announces auditions for its upcoming fall 2010 production of “Hairspray,” directed by Shawn M. Mortensen, with music direction by Kathryn Little and choreography by Sunny Watts.

The musical will open the 2010-2011 SCERA Encore Season and will play September 17-Oct. 4, 2010 on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays @ 7:30 pm in Showhouse II at the SCERA Center for the Arts in Orem.

Auditions for ages 12 and older will be Thursday, July 15 and Friday, July 16 from 6-8pm.  All roles are available.  The roles of Link, Tracy, Penny, Seaweed, etc. will be cast late teens/early 20’s.  Dance auditions will be held for those invited to callbacks on Saturday July 17.  The director needs performers who can sing and dance.  There will not be “dancing only” roles.

Auditions will be held in Room B3 of the SCERA Center for the Arts, 745 South State, Orem.  All auditioners should prepare to sing 16 bars of a Broadway or early 1960’s-style song of their choice.  Please do not audition with a song from “Hairspray.” No appointment is necessary. An accompanist, CD player or IPOD playback is available.

With music and lyrics by Marc Shaiman, “Hairspray” delighted audiences by sweeping them away to 1960's Baltimore, where change is in the air.  Loveable plus-size heroine, Tracy Turnblad, has a passion for dancing, and wins a spot on the local TV dance program, "The Corny Collins Show." Overnight she finds herself transformed from outsider to teen celebrity. Can a larger-than-life adolescent manage to vanquish the program's reigning princess, integrate the television show, and find true love (singing and dancing all the while, of course!) without mussing her hair?  With arguably one of the most upbeat and catchy scores of all time, “Hairspray” includes tunes such as “Good Morning Baltimore,” “You Can’t Stop The Beat,” “Mama, I’m A Big Girl Now,” “It Takes Two,” “Welcome to the 60’s,” “I Can Hear The Bells” and more.

Cast:
Lisa Kron:  New York performance artist writing a play not about herself.
Ann Kron:  Midwestern housewife, Warm and Funny.

Playwright’s notes about actors:
“A group of four actors that Lisa has hired to be in the play.  They are designated here as A, B, C and D, but should be referred to throughout the play by their actual names.  As the ‘intended play’ unravels and their ‘rehearsed’ scenes are interrupted, we see that these ‘real people’ have to grapple with the unexpected events onstage.  As the play continues, we see their standard actor show-must-go-on ethic erode as they (like the audience) start to find Ann a more compelling source of information, entertainment and warm human connection.”

Please read the script before auditioning.
The play may be confusing for those who have not read it and time will not be allotted in auditions to explain the play’s premise.

Scripts are available by contacting  Becca Dupaix at beccadupaix@gmail.com or 801-913-2038

Information on Well taken from Lisa Kron’s website
“In Well, Lisa Kron creates a complex exploration of our assumptions about whether or not we are responsible for our own illnesses. She draws on stories of her family's history of chronic illness, her own stay in an "environmental ecology clinic," and her subsequent transition to health. Woven into this are stories of her childhood in a racially integrated neighborhood which was "healed" from decline by her mother's community work. Kron places herself on stage with the character of her mother along with a chorus of four actors. These characters continually undermine Kron's plans for the play - a meta-theatrical conceit that has proven exceedingly delightful to audiences as it subverts the autobiographical form by removing the narrator's assumption of omniscience and forcing her to react as her intentions are derailed and her motives are questioned

CRAZE TALENT PLEASE READ- How Getting Paid Works

June 25, 2010

How getting paid works

We have one of the best commission structures for any PURE Agency in the United States.

You must pay your commission within one week of receipt of pay if they pay you directly.  If they pay Craze directly, we will pay you within one week of receipt, minus our commission.

Commission for extra work (under $100 per day) is 10% of the Gross pay (the highest amount), featured extras ($100.00 or over per day) you must pay 15% of the Gross pay.

A commission of 15% of the Gross pay is due for everything else. Including film, TV, commercials, modeling, tradeshows, voice-overs, residuals, etc.

Clients usually take up to 20-90 days to pay, but occasionally it could take longer. It always depends on the project and who the client is. We will assist you in getting paid as soon as possible. We all want to get paid!

The Craze Agency is not held liable if a client does not pay, but we will do everything in our power, including hiring a collection agency and attorney if needed.

When we receive the payment from the client we will email you the day that the check clears that you can pick up your check. If you live more than 30 miles from our Utah office we will mail it to you once we receive your mailing address.

We are working extremely hard to assist you in getting as many paying auditions as possible!

SYNOPSIS:
On June 2001, John Walker Lindh, a US citizen, and a devout Muslim who, due to his religious convictions, joins the Taliban to fight the Northern alliance.  John converted to Islam at age 16 after watching a Malcom X. DVD.  After his initial training, he is sent to the front line on October 2001 as a sentinel in a bunker held by the Taliban facing the last stronghold of the Northern Alliance in Afghanistan.

On September 11, 2001, William Tecumseh Lee, a CIA agent in the Special Activities Division, after watching the tragic footage of the Twin Towers’ collapse, is the first to volunteer for a clandestine mission to Afghanistan. Leaving his beautiful wife and young family, he is also one of the first Americans flown into Afghanistan to spearhead the CIA’s intelligence gathering activities to locate and
kill Osama bin Laden.
On approximately November 24, 2001, William Lee is tasked to interrogate 300 prisoners, including John Walker Lindh, captured by the Northern Alliance under the leadership of General Dostum, one of
the most brutal and ruthless warlords who once had allied himself with the Russians.

After William Lee attempts to interrogate a scared and exhausted John Walker Lindh, a riot breaks out among the prisoners. During the ensuing melee, the prisoners break into an arms room, William Lee is
shot and killed, and John Walker Lindh is wounded and left for dead. John is later rescued by a comrade, and over the course of seven hellish days, 87 members of the original 300 prisoners are recaptured and those considered having intelligence information, including John Walker Lindh are turned over to the United States Army.
Now in the custody of US military, John Walker Lindh is tortured, interrogated and eventually tried and given a 20-year sentence due to his allegiance with the Taliban.  During this ordeal, John Walker
Lindh finds himself in the almost constant company of the spirit of William Tecumseh Lee.  William Lee’s soul is trapped in a world in which his only companion is John Walker Lindh.

The US public and William’s father, Horatio Lee, blame John Walker Lindh for the murder of  William Lee.
As a spirit, William Lee soon discovers that he can only converse with John Walker Lindh, he can visit as a lone wanderer all the places that John Walker Lindh has traversed during his life, and he can silently visit his father when his father is alone.
As William Lee explores his new existence, he seeks to complete the mission he had in life, to find Osama bin Laden.

As events unfold, William Lee learns that his father is obsessed to uncover all the details that led to William Lee’s death, and to thereby ensure that John Walker Lindh receives the death penalty.
Will’s father, Horatio Lee is pitted against John Walker Lindh’s father, Frank Lindh, who, although he recognizes, to the degree his fatherly loves allows, that his son has made a mistake, he does not
believe his son should be punished any further.

Due to his quest, Horatio Lee, to William Lee’s distress, becomes so obsessed for revenge that he quickly descends into alcoholism and insanity.  Desperate to help him, William Lee turns to the only living person he can communicate with, John Walker Lindh.  William Lee asks John to help him communicate with his father.  John resists, knowing what Horatio is bitterly ill-disposed towards him and his father Frank.  Through ensuing court proceedings, setbacks and trials, William Lee, with John’s help, is able to arrest his father’s descent, John is granted a presidential pardon and both William and Horatio Lee achieve redemption through their association with the erstwhile “American Taliban” and terrorist John Walker Lindh.

Local filmmaker Kevin Lacy is looking for a gifted actor to star in this, his final film project at the University of Utah. After holding auditions for this part we have yet to find an actor that fits the role as envisioned.

Shooting is scheduled to commence mid-July and is expected to last four shooting days, though the actor should be willing to commit to more time if it becomes necessary.

The film is a NON-PAYING project. However, food will be provided on shoot days. Also, for those actors looking to gain greater exposure, the film, once finished will be submitted to national and international film festivals as well as film contests around the globe.

Please send a headshot and links to any acting work available online to TheOtherVolunteer@gmail.com  You may still be considered for this role if you do not have these, but please at least include a photo of yourself. Audition sides will be sent immediately upon receiving this information.

Only flexible, committed and ego-less actors will be considered for this role. Do not bother e-mailing if these words do not describe your personality.

If you'd like to see examples of Kevin's work you may check out his latest short film "They Put a Man on the Earth" available for online viewing at http://www.vimeo.com/12221229
