Idaho Dance Theatre Auditions

Idaho Dance Theatre, a professional contemporary Dance company, creates and performs original artistic works to advance and promote the art of Dance.

Current Positions Available for 2009 - 2010 season include paid Dancers and unpaid apprentices, both Male and Female. Dancers are contracted for 30-32 weeks of part-time work (approximately 16 hours per week). Benefits include ballet class, physical therapy and chiropractic care as needed. 

Auditions will be held:

Dates: Saturday, April 18, 2009 and Saturday, May 9, 2009

Location: Boise State University Morrison Center in Studio B111

Time: 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

UPDATE! LDS Battalion Project needs Male Featured Extras/Extras, 18-55, Utah

News about the “Mormon Battalion” project!
 
This e-mail is with regard to EXTRAS casting. Casting for Principle roles has not yet begun.  We will notify you when it does.
 
Here’s what we know thus far:
 
 This project is for the San Diego Mormon Battalion Visitor’s Center.  It will be shot and produced    here in Utah, along the Wasatch Front.

(3    They expect the project will shoot in June.

(4  By all expectations, it is anticipated this project will be PAID work.

      They will need several EXTRAS and FEATURED EXTRAS of the following description: 

MEN, ages 18-55, very thin (emaciated), bearded with considerable hair growth. Apparently, these Men endured horrific hardships along the trail. By the time they reached San Diego, all were sick, emaciated, and in definite need of a good shave-and-a-haircut, not to mention a bath.

(Don’t worry about having “hair & beard” at this point. This is only to determine if you will be asked to grow them out.)

It WILL be a great Production and a memorable story!

Casting would like to make some preliminary selections so that they actually use those who grow out hair and beard for this project over the next two or three months.

NV, 'ONCE ON THIS ISLAND'

Signature Productions, in conjunction with Super Summer Theatre, is casting, Once On This Island, a Caribbean adaptation of the popular fairy tale The Little Mermaid. Steve Huntsman, dir. Shannon Winkel, choreo.

The show is the story of Ti Moune, a black peasant girl who rescues, nurses and falls in love with Daniel, a mulatto from a wealthy family. When Daniel is returned to his people, the gods who rule the island, guide Ti Moune on a quest to test the strength of her love against the powerful forces of prejudice, hatred and death.

The Caribbean-flavored score is by the Tony Award-winning songwriting team of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Ragtime and the animated film Anastasia). Rehearsals will begin in early June (evenings Mon.-Fri.) with performances scheduled for August 12-29, Wed-Sat.

Ti Moune: female, 16-30, beautiful peasant girl from an uncertain past with childlike innocence. She's an unselfish dreamer about to embark on a journey that will test her strength and challenge her spirit. strong singer/actor, must dance well;

U.S., 'CIRCUS CONELLI', ZURICH, SWITZERLAND, DANERS

The Circus Conelli is casting for performances beginning in November in Zurich, Switzerland. Cindy Lee Gasser, casting dir.

Rehearsals are scheduled to begin Nov. 2, show opens Nov. 19, with the premiere on Nov. 23. Two shows a day for approximately 42 days. Show closes Jan. 2, 2010. Dancers would need to learn about four numbers.

Casting Call, Short Film, NAMPA, ID.

Auditions will be held starting Monday, April 6th for several parts in a 16mm Short Film being shot by the Film & Television department of Northwest Nazarene University.

Shooting dates are Saturday, April 25 and Saturday, May 2, in Nampa.

Participants will be given a finished DVD of the Film when it is completed.

The Film will be a series of test scenes for a Feature-Length Film designed to "save the City of Council, Idaho", currently in development. Actors chosen for these test scenes may appear in the full Film if and when it goes into Production, but there is NO GUARANTEE you will be given the same role, or any speaking role.

Auditions will be held weekday evenings, or other times by special appointment.

This email is to inform you of Auditions for a brand-new Musical that is going into Production for a late Summer run.

MISSION, The Musical! is a story that is fresh and upbeat. The music is kind of a mix between "Rent" and "Grease," with a little bit of classic Broadway sound. It is definitely not what a typical, "Mormon" audience is used to hearing.     

We are scheduled to run three Weekends from August 28th, to September 12th. The show will be performed at the Post Theater at the University of Utah.

Auditions will be Wednesday, May 27th, and Thursday May 28th - 6 p.m. at the Student Union Theater on the U of U campus.
Callbacks will be Saturday, May 30th at the same location at noon.
 
Please keep in mind this is the "debut" of the show. This means we need Actors that can work hard, have fun, and also be willing to experiment. We imagine it will be an experience unlike any other show. We also do not want anyone to feel cheated so we want everyone to understand up-front that Production Budget is limited. This is a community Theater show and the Actors will not be paid. If time permits an original cast CD will be recorded by the actors. Recording experience could be helpful, but is not necessary. We hope the show will catch on and in ten years you can say "I was the first person to play that role."  We have been working on the script and music for over two years and are very excited to be finally doing the show. We hope that the actors can come willing to add the missing ingredients to the final mix.
 
Following is the Character Breakdown. While it is fairly obvious that this show is LDS based, we want anyone and everyone that is interested to audition. We prefer Talent over religious conviction. All ages for characters are approximate, if you are 25 and feel like you can pull of a great Susan then please try it.  Remember, these characters have never been seen on stage before. We have our ideas of what they are like, but you may bring something to the table that blows us away. We want fresh ideas for sure. All characters will have to sing. Please come prepared with your own music to sing a few bars. An accompanist will be provided, or bring a cd. Music for the show will be pre-recorded on cd. All actors will receive a copy for their own use.

Kendall - 19-26 - Just turning 19. Life for him up to this point has been pretty easy. He is starting to realize that he has to grow up. He is finding out that you have to start relying on your own conviction to make it in this world.

Melissa - 19-26 -  Girlfriend to Kendall. Melissa is sincere and naive. She wants to help get Kendall out into the mission field so they can move on to the next phase in their lives. When that phase comes for her . . . she finds out it isn't quite what she was expecting.

Meekum - 20-30 - Nephite Warrior. Meekum is everything that Kendall isn't. He is determined and strong. His life as one of the people of Ammon has not been easy. He wants to serve his people and join Helaman's Army to show his dedication to the Lord.

Susan 35-50 - Kendall's Mother. Susan is the ever-present mother in Kendall's life. She would wipe his nose if he would still let her. It's breaking her heart to send him away for two years, but she isn't going to let anything or anyone stop it from happening.

George - 35-50 -Kendall's Father. George is the anchor that keeps Susan from getting lost at sea. He lets her be in charge, until she reaches overload, at which point he steps in with kind and loving council. Kendall knows when he needs real advice, he turns to dad.

Emni - 25-30 - Friend to Meekum. - Emni meets Meekum on the road to join the Army of Helaman. The two become friends to the end.

Miera - 40-50 - Meekum's Mother. - It is hard for Miera to let her son go to war. But she knows he is resolute in his decision. The only thing she can do is send him off with wise council, love, and the lesson that he should always rely on the Lord.

Elder Studge - 20-25 - Kendall's MTC companion. - Elder Studge is the first of the interesting companions that Kendall has on his mission. Think Weird Al's "White and Nerdy." The best thing about Elder Studge is Kendall knows he will be getting replaced in nine months.

Elder Walton - 20-25 - Kendall's Trainer, lax trainer. - Walton has one thing on his mind, going home. His fire and zeal burned out long ago and he has no desire to rekindle the flame. Maybe, just maybe, the right companion could re-ignite his gusto and send him home on a high note.

Helaman - Helaman. 29-45 - Pretty self-explanatory. If you don't know who this is read the Book of Mormon, around Alma. Muscles would be nice, he also has a big solo.

We also need several Nephite and Lamanite Warriors that will double as missionaries and other various singing parts. Muscles would be nice here as well, but not required. If you have any experience break-dancing please put that in your resume.  This show will have a small cast, 20-25 people max so you will be very busy on stage.

(Orem, Utah) – SCERA announces auditions for its upcoming Summer 2009 Production of, “West Side Story,” directed by Agnes Broberg with music direction by Melissa Thorne and choreography by Danni Gull.

The Musical will play July 3-20, 2009 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays @ 8:00 pm at the SCERA Shell Outdoor Theatre in Orem. There will not be a show on July 4.

Auditions for ages 14 and older will be Monday and Tuesday, April 20 and 21 from 7-10pm in Room B1 of the SCERA Center for the Arts, 745 South State, Orem.

All auditioners should prepare to sing 16 measures of a Broadway-style song of their choice and come dressed to move to learn a short Dance routine. No appointment is necessary. An accompanist or CD player will be provided.
