Subject: Audition for a play
Poison Ivy Mysteries is excited to announce Auditions for their upcoming Murder Mystery that will be playing November, December and January. Most weekends (excluding Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Eve weekends) and only on Fridays. Our show is called "Shadow of the King" and the premise is fantastical!
The old king has died and the kingdom is preparing for the coronation of the Prince to take his place. But, as in all good classic ascension stories, another Prince and his sister, the Princess conspire to take the throne. Throw into the mix a conniving yet lovable wizard, a mysterious old woman and a beautiful lady in waiting and you have the cast fit for a king!

We are looking for actors to play ALL parts!

Prince #1: This prince is the one that expects to take the crown. He is similar to Gaston from Beauty and the Beast. He's a womanizer and a gambler. He is also a bit dim...but charismatic. He sings in a trio with his brother and sister and also in the finale. 18-35

Prince #2:This prince was kidnapped by Pirates when he was young and has returned to claim the throne. He is the eldest prince. He is honorable (despite being raised by Pirates) and charming. He ends up falling in love with the lady in waiting. He sings a duet with the Lady in Waiting as well as a trio with his sister and brother. He also sings in the finale. 18-35

Princess:She is the middle child. She is bright and beautiful. She is learned in all the aspects of ruling the kingdom as she studied at her fathers knee, but, alas, as a woman she is denied the right to the crown. She conspires to get around that. She also sings to animals (had to do it.) He sings in a song with the other 2 princes detailing their specific reasons why they are the best choice for ruler. She also will sing an acapella theme throughout the night...similar to Rapunzel in Into the Woods. She sings in the finale. 18-35

Wizard: He is similar to Merlin or Dumbledore in appearance and mannerisms but has the heart of Jafar or Scar. He works with all of the children pretending to help them to the throne but is, in fact, working on his own agenda. He sings a song that is also part audience participation dance. It's style is lighthearted and "magical" and does not require incredible voice talent, although we do need someone who can stay on pitch. He also sings a bit in the finale. 35-65

Lady-in-Waiting:She works at the castle...attending to the Princess. She plays a double role as an outside observer (Puckish or Narrator like) in some aspects but ends up falling for Prince #2. She gets to sing a wonderful opening number detailing the ambiguity between good and evil and has a large part in the closing number. She also sings a love duet with Prince #2. 18-35

Mysterious Old Woman: She is working as an assistant for the Wizard and goes about offering up bits of sage advice. Her part in the whole mess is much bigger than it seems. She does not sing in any of the songs. 35-65

There is another song in which no one sings but is an insult sword fight number. It will involve the two princes, the princess, the wizard and a couple of audience members.

Auditions will be held on September 18th (Saturday) at 1 p.m. at my home located at 4424 West Cortney Drive, West Valley City. Please bring 16 bars of recorded music (we have a CD player and Ipod hookups) to sing to. We will be doing cold readings. If you cannot make this time,
please call me to make other arrangements at 801-906-8591.
Thanks and we hope to see you there!
