2014-15 SEASON  CASTING AUDITIONS

Do you want the opportunity to travel around the country performing for thousands of people? The Utah Ballroom Dance Company is casting for their new season and providing that opportunity. Work with a award-winning company and receive private training while you tour and perform in two professional level shows.

 

Dancers of all levels and from across the country are encouraged to audition!

 

Company Description:

The Utah Ballroom Dance Company (UBDC) was founded in 2010 in St. George, UT.  Due to its growing success and bookings it no longer resides in Utah but is a touring professional company. Rehearsals for the company members are held in Corvallis, OR during the month of December. With a repertoire of 5 different shows and over a hundred shows each season. The UBDC is growing fast and looking for new talent. This season the company's tour will include stops in: NY, PA, OH, TN, OR, ID, WA, CA, UT, NV, AZ.

 

Show Descriptions:

"Dancing with YOUR Stars"-

        Similar to a popular TV show, this production partners up 6  local "Stars" with our dancers to learn a ballroom dance routine.  We costume the stars, add in some video highlights and a hilarious local judging panel and put on a show that communities absolutely love. The best part is the community gets to vote for who will win and take home the coveted mirror ball trophy.

 

"Hollywood: A Ballroom Dancing Tribute to the Silver Screen"-

       Hollywood is a theatrical sensation! Hollywood’s favorite characters and stories are brought to life with elegant costumes, breathtaking lifts, and beautiful ballroom dancing. Audiences are swept away watching stars like Fred Astarie, Ginger Rodgers, Gene Kelly, Judy Garland, Marilyn Monroe and more, dancing to the music from the movies that made them famous.

 

Typical Work Week:

Preparation days:

~ Preparing stars and rehearsal (1-2 hours)

~ Individual practice and technique (1.5 hour)

~ Cast Rehearsal (1.5 hours)

~ Remainder of day is typically open to other activities, free time, and exercise

 

Show Days:

~Dress rehearsal (1.5 hours)

~Setup for show (2 hours)

~Performance (1.5 hours)

~Strike (1 hour)

 

Compensation:

~6 month contract (December 1st- May 31st) [Holidays in December off]

~Housing throughout contract is provided

~Food throughout contract is provided

~Travel throughout contract is provided, including to rehearsals in Oregon

~Salary (equivalent to 10-15 hours of work at $15-20 an hour or varies DOE)

 

Audition Requirements:

1. Record four (4) routines or demonstrations of your dancing:

      a. Each routine should be approx. 90-seconds long

      b. Select two dances from one style below and two dances from a second style

                   i. American Rhythm (Cha Cha, Rumba, East Coast Swing, Bolero, Mambo)

                   ii. American Smooth (Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Viennese Waltz)

                   iii. International Latin (Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble, Jive)

                   iv. International Standard (Foxtrot, Waltz, Quickstep, Tango, Viennese Waltz)

            (If no previous ballroom dance experience: please submit videos demonstrating your level of experience in

             ballet, jazz, hip-hop, tap, contemporary, modern, etc.)

      c. Upload your videos to YouTube or Vimeo

                   i. You may set the privacy of the videos to unlisted if you do not wish to have them public and search-able

                   ii. Take note of the links to your videos as you will submit them in your on-line audition form
