Synopsis
James is a struggling writer
with a dull and repetitious job for a large film studio. This job starts to
smother him despite his efforts at self-medication. The conflict with his more
carefree artist half takes a comical twist when his Id takes form and starts
battling for a more artistic version of the story in progress, which as luck
would have it, creates entertaining conflicts for their budding characters.. To
make matters worse – this battle unfolds in front of his one love interest in
his one safe place, the corner diner where he usually finds himself when
struggling with writer’s block.
James -
James is a budding novelist in
his late 30’s to late 40's.
James aspires to great art as a
novelist but struggles with the craft of his punchclock writer’s job where he’s
paid to write and edit scripts for formulaic studio era movies. He
smokes too much and drinks too much in an effort to medicate away his self-doubt
about taking a dull and repetitious job where he edits and assists on western
scripts with a big time studio. He has an unrequited crush on the waitress at
his favorite diner, a place where he goes to scribble in longhand when he can’t
stay in his studio apartment and stare at his typewriter. The diner is a place
where he goes to break through his writer’s block.
Waitress
/ Jane - late thirties
Janey is a girl who came to the
same town as James to pursue a dream that never came. She wanted to be
discovered at a soda fountain but ended up behind it. She still holds out hope
that after a trail of broken dreams and broken promises that there might be one
nice guy left.
