Feature Film Team Auditions
There are a lot of talented people wanting to work on films these days. We are approaching making films in a different way
– starting with the people.
The films our final team will be involved in making this spring/summer/fall will be in the $100 – 500K range. They may be Fantasy / Sci-fi related, they certainly will be films meant for a family audience with PG or PG-13 ratings.
We don’t want to hire solely based on experience or reputation, nor will we always be able to afford them. We are looking for individuals hungry but talented, but we won’t sacrifice quality at the expense of saving a few dollars. We’re looking for people interested in long term collaboration.
It is important to us that we know and like those we work with especially when you factor in the stress of being on tight shooting schedules. Though the goal is to make good films (and make money in the process), people and relationships will always be more important.
Can you think on your feet?
Can you come up with solutions and not add to the problems?
Do you take initiative?
Are you cross trained?
Are you fun to be around?
So here’s how we are going about this:
Over the next six-weeks we are doing three one-day shoots (March 23, March 30 & April 13, 2013 – all Saturdays) in Salt Lake City / Provo area, and we are looking for mostly production people (but actors too, depending on the script) to audition for a position on our small budget “indie” feature film team. This will be a non-paying part (unless you consider lunch).
We will shoot a long day (8-10 hours), with our equipment (probably Canon 5 & 6D’s), on a 2-5 minute action script that may or may not have a purpose other than to give the team a practice run. There are no gimmicks, fees or hidden agendas. We already have a large network of talent; we simply think this is a great way to try out new people and narrow that group down, on a real day of shooting. Each Saturday shoot will be staffed anew with different people in those positions. Remember - we are only looking for your involvement on one of these three day shoots.
Here are the positions we will need:
Director Assistant Director Stills Photographer
Director of Photography Camera Assistant / Gaffer Production Audio
Audio Assistant Music Composer Casting
Production Designer / Costumes Hair/Make-up Actors PA
Screenwriter (for 2-5 min scenes) Editor Colorist VFX Artist
Some positions could go unassigned or not needed.
We will do an initial pre-screening of individuals so that we feel we have the best person for each of the roles. Directors and DP’s will likely be decided upon and brought in early to discuss the script with the writer and actors. There will be a mandatory pre-production meeting the Tuesday or Wednesday night before each shoot to organize, nail down details, firm up locations, etc. Not everything will be known (no storyboards) and this may be fairly representative of the type of run and gun production we anticipate doing.
At the end of each shoot, we will get your feedback and honestly evaluate you on various factors such as skills, resourcefulness, initiative, personality, enthusiasm, ability to handle the production environment. Think of this as a fun (or maybe not so fun) test to see if you want to work with us as well.
Please contact me immediately if you want to be involved as we expect a large number of interested individuals. We will need to know:

Possibly, examples of your work
What position(s) you are interested in
Just a little information on me.
I’ve been doing films, documentaries, commercials and corporate video for 35+ years. I started several companies/ventures (SLC and in Chicago), had fortune 500 clients, won some awards, been around the block a few times. I can do most any job that I can’t get filled. My last position was as a Senior Film/Video Producer at the LDS Church where I was fortunate to travel to about 30 countries in the two years I worked for them.
