[MARY LYNN PARKS] 19, very pregnant (doesn't stop her from smoking), not too bright, not too classy, Mary
Lynn's an experienced server at Papa's Chicken and Waffle House, where she alternates between gum-chewing
laziness and an all-star smile for customers. Mary Lynns' been at Papa's a while, and is always quitting and then
coming back again. Mary Lynn is the server that Jim shadows when he first comes to work there, and she can move
pretty fast when she has to. Mary Lynn is thrilled to be able to quit once she marries her boyfriend, but true to form

[TYRELL WILLIAMS] 28, smooth, good‐looking, a ladies' man, Tyrell works the third shift at Papa's Chicken and
Waffle House.Tyrell befriends Jim when Jim starts working third shift, and he's very impressed but a little
confused when Jim tells him that what he used to do for a living is "blow up banks," a financial phrase that Tyrell
takes literally. Tyrell becomes involved with one of the store's customers (a scary but well‐endowed young

[LARRY COBBLE] 40s, a large cook with thinning hair and no sense of humor, a third shift worker, bullied
relentlessly by his wife, Larry is a stickler for rules and doesn't have the laid‐back friendliness of the other
employees and managers at the restaurant. He also seems to have it in for Jim, who's relaxed considerably into
his job by the time he starts working third shift. When Jim commits a minor infraction, Larry Cobble makes it

[MANUEL LOPEZ] 20s, covered in tattoos, somewhat laconic, Manuel works in the kitchen at Papa's Chicken and
Waffle House, having come back there after spending twelve months in prison (got out early because of overcrowding).
Manuel mans the busy grill along with Edward, and he's good at his job. He clearly likes Papa's, and

[WRIGHT ADAMS] Jim's dad, 50s, pragmatic, not unsympathetic to his son, Wright runs his family's very successful
chocolate bar business, for which Jim has been groomed since he was very young (though Jim decided to go into
finance). Somewhat bullied by his outspoken dad, Wright himself is willing to let Jim do what he wants but he's a
bit shocked when Jim is fired from his very prestigious and lucrative financial management job. After Jim loses his
franchise opportunity, Wright, with his father, comes to Jim with a plan to help him out with his next venture...1

[GRANDPOP ADAMS] Jim's grandfather, Wright's dad, 70s, outspoken, can be a little hard to handle but a good
man all in all, Grandpop thinks Jim's financial ex-bosses are a bunch of crooks and thinks Jim should come to work
in the family's chocolate bar warehouse "get you doin' some honest work." After Jim loses his opportunity to buy the
Papa's Chicken and Waffle franchise, Grandpop Adams joins Wright in offering Jim another chance to start his own
